I think this picture has hit me harder than everything I have read about this incident. I have tears in my eyes, i love the turtles...

Would like to see the verification. Not sure why time was spent posting flowers instead of informing authorities

Yes, the turtle was found on the beach. But turtles are commonly found dead on the beach here. This one has been dead in the water for some time. Note the barnacles on the shell and head. This turtle has already been autopsied and cause of death will be known shortly. Note the identifying red paint on the shell. It indicates authorities have taken samples of flesh for analysis. My opinion given the above: death by oil is highly improbable.

No Sherman...actually barnacles are found on whales, turtles and lots of slow moving sea life, I know, I grew up all over the Islands, and have seen this firsthand . They are not an indication of death, nor has this turtle been dead for more than 5 days at the time of this photo..How do I know, ...? My wife is a marine/wildlife veterinarian. You are spouting facts that are nothing but pure opinion.

They have found some long dead turtles in Ms recently and they look pale, waterlogged, and flimsy. This turtle does not look that way at all. So damn sad, I am in a state of disbelief that this is happening here.
Kathy (May 28 2010)
I think it's sad! We all know there was an explosion and people died doing their jobs! God bless them! There were people who passed the okay to let BP drill for oil, without making sure the "safeguards" they said they had were a sure thing. Now after all this time NO ONE can seem to stop the oil from spewing out into the Gulf. And with all the pictures and all the death that has already happened, and is happening, and WILL happen, there are all the people out there that DON'T BELIEVE, that anything people are finding and SEEING, is true. Come on give me a break!!! We will ALL suffer from this disaster for many years to come!

Was this really 5/11? I was at that spot on the beach and a dead turtle was found either 5/6 or 5/7. I've never seen such and the game and fish folks roped the area off and flew an american flag for a hour or so and left. Then a front end loader scooped it up and it was over. Any info on the date or "ceremony"?
