Several days of high winds revealed buried oil and possible Corexit contamination near the outflow of Lake Stallworth a rare coastal dune lake in the FL panhandle. This area was impacted by BP oil spill in June 2010. The outflow area had been shut off to reduce possibility of further contamination, however, oil sat at the opening of this lake. In the fall of 2011, this area was opened back up and the storms over the past few months has removed layers of sand revealing layers of crude oil pollution all along this fragile area along the Gulf.
The UV light will fluoresce an orange color depicting contamination of crude oil, the purple color is the sand under UV light. Note the paw print in the photos- what are the chronic effects going to be on wildlife-with oil present for weeks, months and now nearly 2 years?
